How to Tell It’s Time for House Repiping
Wanting to understand whether or not house repiping is in your near future? You do not want to put off repiping your house if it is already time. If you do, it will only make the process more difficult to perform.
Every house needs to be repiped eventually, as pipes will wear out over a period time. If your house has not been repiped in the last 40 to 50 years, then it is important for you to understand some of the signs that can let you know it is time.
Repiping a house
The repiping process is one that removes all of the cold water pipes and the hot water pipes so that brand new pipes can be placed in the house. While this is indeed a large plumbing project, it is necessary when pipes are not functioning as they should. Since the pipes in one’s house only need to be replaced every 50 years or so, once the process is finished, there is no need to think about it again for many years.
How to tell it’s time for house repiping
The following is a list of some of the more common signs that can let homeowners know that it is time for them to repipe their house.
Corrosion and/or rust in or on the pipes
When corrosion and/or rust exist within the pipes or is a problem that is occurring on the pipes, it is time for repiping. This will decrease the flow of water until very little pressure is left. Low water pressure and water that is not its usual clear color are two signs that corrosion and/or rust is present.
Pipes that are leaking
While an occasional pipe leakage is to be expected, when pipes leak often or the same type of leak keeps happening, then it is time to repipe the house. Constant or ongoing pipe leaks are one of the more common signs that repiping is necessary in order to fix the problem.
Pipes that are making new and strange sounds, like banging, vibrating and whining, mean that there is some type of existing pipe damage. The damage is often related to loose connections, but can also be related to pipe leaks and little or too much air access.
Water pressure problems
Water pressure problems are more often than not directly related to pipes that are worn out or not performing properly. Over time, various types of debris will build up in the pipes, leading to a decrease in water pressure.
Need new pipes?
Is house repiping in your very near future? If you are experiencing one or more of the above signs then now is the time for you to look into your repiping options. Once you have your house is repiped, you can expect them to last you for many more years, but you also get the benefits of repiping. These benefits include improved water pressure, cleaner water, more hot water and lower energy bills.
