How Does the Pipe Replacement Process Work?

Pipe replacement is one of the scariest and most intimidating projects a property owner can take on. The fear typically comes from not being sure what you will find once you start to look into your piping and drainage systems.

Unfortunately, not getting pipes inspected as recommended only makes any existing issue worse over time. The problem will eventually become big enough to shut the entire system down.

There are many reasons why a homeowner might need to replace sections of piping or even their entire system. Corrosion is one of the common reasons why pipes are replaced. It can contaminate the water supply leading to health issues. Trying to manage corroded pipes can quickly become expensive.

When pipe replacement is needed

When pipes become worn down and corroded, it can interfere with the flow of water since the corrosion leads to the buildup of materials inside the pipe. This has an adverse effect on water pressure, drains are more likely to clog and it can contaminate any water that flows through it. Pipes made before 1980 are most likely to contaminate water since they contain lead components. Lead is now known to be very toxic to humans.

When the water flow in a pipe is blocked enough, the pressure in the pipe is raised and that can lead to it rupturing. Once that occurs, the water is free to seep into any insulation, flooring, ceilings or drywall nearby.

It is often best to deal with corrosion before it turns into a significantly bigger issue. Changing a pipe out can be a pain, but it is a lot better than having to replace a floor, the drywall or ceiling!

What to expect during pipe replacement

  1. An inspection – The first step towards getting pipes replaced is an inspection done by a plumber. The person will examine the materials the pipes are made of and the integrity of each pipe. In many cases, the plumber might be able to fix the issue the owner called about without having to replace any pipes
  2. A consultation – If the plumber decides one or more pipes need to be replaced, they will help the owner to select the type of pipes to use as replacements. This decision is based on many factors like the person's budget, how the pipe being replaced was damaged and the type of water the pipe is used for
  3. No more piping problem – A team of plumbers will work with the client to come up with the best timetable for the project. The work will be done to high standards and the issue the homeowner called about will be resolved

Do not wait until your pipes leave you no choice

The thought of pipe replacement might be the least exciting thing on your mind. But, it will give you fewer things to worry about. It will take care of any issues you have with your current pipes and help you avoid the nightmare scenario that will inevitably occur if you neglect your pipes.
